Australia’s BMX star Lauren Reynolds is heading to the USA to compete in the prestigious American Bicycle Association Grand Nationals. Reynolds, the world number one ranked junior women’s rider, will compete against the best world riders in Tulsa, Oklahoma later this month.
The ABA Grands is a premier BMX event that attracts thousands of riders from all over the world.
Reynolds said she was excited to be heading to the US to compete against some of the best riders in the World.
“BMX is a professional sport in the US and the depth of talent is amazing,” she said.
“The Grand Nationals are up there with the Olympic Games and world championships for profile, size and standard of competition.”
Reynolds said competing in the US was another step in her career and her last major junior title before moving up to the senior ranks.
Reynolds has been training hard since returning from the world championships in China were she finished second to French rider Malon Valentino in the junior women’s final having led during the race.
“I have some unfinished business in the junior ranks and so I am leaving no stone unturned in my effort to win the ABA Grands,” Reynolds said.
President of the Bunbury BMX Club Carol Smith said Lauren deserved to do well because she has worked so hard to be world number one.
“Lauren is a talented rider, very fast and technically excellent,” Mrs Smith said.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we see her represent Australia at the London Olympics in 2012.”
The ABA Grand Nationals will run from November 28 to 30 and is held indoors on a purpose built track.
It attracts many sponsors and a substantial prize pool for the winners.
