Katherine Prumm breaks collarbone

New Zealand’s motocross world champion Katherine Prumm, will miss this weekend’s Grand Prix of Germany after breaking her left collarbone while training in Belgium. The 20-year-old had a relatively slow speed tumble yesterday but it resulted in a complicated fracture which required surgery and the insertion of a plate.

Pretty (fast) in pink

Kingston BMX Racer Ashly Kenney copped two gold medals in the female novice 14 category at a two-day Ontario Cup series event in Chatham. Yesterday, the youngster reflected on her golden weekend and thanked those most responsible -the boys back home in the Limestone City. “I usually race against guys at the Kingston track, and I actually prefer it that way,” noted the Monday/Wednesday regular at the Peter Brierley Memorial layout at Woodbine Park.

Canadian Women Ski Racers Retire

Following Canadian Allison Forsyth’s announcement last week that she was retiring from World Cup-level ski racing, five other Canadian women have decided to pursue other careers and will not return to the national team ski racing programs this winter, Alpine Canada Alpin announced on Friday.

With two events under their belts, and a lifetime of competitive experience, What’s On Tour decided to catch up with a few of them to find out if the Dream Tour everything they thought it would be? Knee injury forces Forsyth to hang up skis

5971271.jpgThe tears started flowing even before Allison Forsyth stepped up to the microphone. “She’s been a trailblazer for women,” proclaimed teammate Emily Brydon, wiping an eye, “. . . an amazing team figure.” And with that, Forsyth took centre stage in the second media conference of her career. The first was in Torino, in 2006, after a crash in training resulted in a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.

Female bikers just want to have fun, too, and at top speed

This motorcyclist has raced a sport bike on a speedway and wound it out on a drag strip, even cracked a few ribs while jumping a dirt bike on an off-road track. “When you love the sport, nothing like that stops you,” she said. That’s right, she. Kay Pratt, an Oklahoma City real estate agent, is part of the fastest growing segment of motorcyclists women riders.

New cycle shop to focus on women

In a city already littered with bicycle shops, some of biggest young wheels in the industry feel there’s room for more. Trek Victoria Pro City Cycle — the 26th bike shop for the city — is a concept store for one of the world’s most popular bike brands and rolls Woodburn’s Pro City Cycle in with the operation. Trek will be the main brand, but there will other makes and models catering to everyone from casual to pro riders, with an extra emphasis on women’s products.
