Katherine Prumm breaks collarbone

New Zealand’s motocross world champion Katherine Prumm, will miss this weekend’s Grand Prix of Germany after breaking her left collarbone while training in Belgium. The 20-year-old had a relatively slow speed tumble yesterday but it resulted in a complicated fracture which required surgery and the insertion of a plate.

Where courage comes with a six-speed gearbox

1793992.jpgNot even a broken leg or a foot broken in two places has deterred Forth teenager Zara Woolley from the demanding sport of motocross. The 16-year-old is very much the flag bearer for female riders in the Coastal Motocross Club and will be back in action at Blackwood Park, near Penguin, for round five of the Tasmanian Motocross Titles on Sunday.

Kristy Gillespie gets her crown

22062008_kg_b1.jpgIn a spectacular day of racing the sun was shining on Gillespie, who was fastest in qualifying and then took the day with second and first places in the two motos. With two-time World Champion Prumm contending her third World title, and unable to make it back to Australia for the final round, the door was left wide open for our Aussie riders to step up onto the podium and show the crowd what they were made of.

Prumm back on top

She may be carrying a serious knee injury, but count out Kiwi Katherine Prumm at your peril. The Yamaha rider from South Auckland finished 3-2 at the French GP on Sunday, the third of five rounds in this year’s Women’s Motocross World Championships, and shot herself to the top of the standings for the first time this year. A crash just days before the opening round of the series had threatened to derail her title bid, but Prumm has knuckled down and bravely clawed her way back into contention.

Track draws a crowd

284-618_dirttrack2embeddedprod_affiliate351.jpgChelsea Craveiro loves to raise a few eyebrows. The 12-year-old enjoys horseback riding, fashion and cosmetics. But on weekends, she’s a regular at MotoX Park East, a motocross track off of Buffalo Road. After slipping on her gloves, helmet and protective clothing, Chelsea cranks up her bike and hits the one-mile track. She takes a few warm-up laps before hitting at full speed and performing tricks, such as lifting her legs or letting go of the handle bars while soaring through the air.

Female bikers just want to have fun, too, and at top speed

This motorcyclist has raced a sport bike on a speedway and wound it out on a drag strip, even cracked a few ribs while jumping a dirt bike on an off-road track. “When you love the sport, nothing like that stops you,” she said. That’s right, she. Kay Pratt, an Oklahoma City real estate agent, is part of the fastest growing segment of motorcyclists women riders.

Prumm ready to pounce

Kiwi Yamaha rider Katherine Prumm is just two points off the lead as this year’s Women’s World Motocross Championships heads to France this weekend for the third round of five in the series. The 19-year-old from South Auckland, who was the world champion in 2006 and 2007, has been playing catch-up since the 2008 season began, all thanks to a scary crash just prior to the championships kicking off in Bulgaria in May.

St. Jean D’Angely Marks FIM MX Series’ Comeback to Action

The eagerly awaited French Motocross Grand Prix will take off this weekend on the St. Jean d’Angely’s race track, near Bordeaux. The first edition of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship will carry on in St. Jean with the third round of the series, having home rider Livia Lancelot on top of the Championship standings.
