Awesome day brings out 228 hill climbers

First-time BHC women’s winner was Hether Holter (48:25) ahead of Muffy Ritz (51:25) and Rebecca Rusch (51:43). Keep in mind that mountain bike champion/endurance athlete Rusch won the women’s biking race (1.19:26) before the hike.

North American ‘cross season bigger and better

It is official: cyclo-cross is here to stay in North America and is as popular as ever. More and more riders are choosing to spend their fall and winter hopping barriers and plowing through mud baths and sand pits, and the level of competition has gone up steadily. There are now 40 races on the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar, the list of events which earn valuable UCI points, nine of which are category 1 UCI (C1) races which have the highest point value of any North American race. There are also a few UCI races in Canada and a healthy amount of un-rated races around the country for all levels of racers.

FSU’s Craig-Pena swamps UF rivals

85 participants for mountain biking event

newmtblogo.jpgNot deterred by the unusually heavy rain season that has preceded the event, the 4th Hercules Mountain Biking Himachal event gets underway on Saturday with as many as 85 cyclists including foreign participants lined up for the start. From India there are participants from Poona, Chennai, Bangalore, Chandigarh and many other cities. Among the competitors there are 11 women cyclists, of whom 9 are foreigners and 2 Indian women.

Rebecca Rusch wins Payson Stampede

Rusch also took the fast approach at the start on her way to a win. “After 24 hour worlds [which she won -ed.], I was pretty spent emotionally and physically, but I came for points in the national series and to preview the course for 24 hour nationals next year. There was no rider list, so I had no idea who was coming.”

Eiduka wins Tartu Rattamaraton

Tartu Rattamaraton is the biggest mountain bike event in Baltic States. This year more than 4,700 people registered for 89km race and 40km distance. The race is organized by the Club Tartu Maraton. The same club will host the European Championships in Mountain Bike Marathon in 2009.
