GLTR Skate Photo Contest

cherry-deck.jpgGettin’ after it these days? Prove it. From October 1-31, 2008, GLTR will be checking out the photos you, dear readers, submit to us in our first-ever photo contest. We’re looking for shots of you or your girl(s) dazzling us with skateboard prowess — vert, street, pool, or bowl. Any trick goes — even super-stylie ones of you just cruising, if you’re the downhill type. E-mail your entry to streetteam@girlslearntoride.com and consider yourself in the running for a brand-new (and yet almost vintage) Cherry Blossom deck, courtesy of Cherry Skateboards. We’ll post the entries in the  GLTR Photo Gallery, where you can obsessively scrutinize each one and cast your digi-vote to help us choose the Very Best One. The first five entries will each score a free one-year subscription to FOAM magazine.

Boring, but necessary:
1.Photos MUST be from amateur photographers — no pro shooters, please.
2. The subject CANNOT be a pro skateboarder — it’s gotta be a girl, and she can’t be competing against the heavies. It’s cool if she competes locally and is on flow, though.
3. Images must be JPG format at 72 dpi and at least 400 pixels wide.
4. When sending your image via e-mail, please include your full name, phone number, e-mail address, age, and mailing address.
5. Also tell us who’s skating in the photo, where it was shot (city and state is enough if you don’t want to give away your secrets), what trick’s being pulled, and who shot the image if you’re submitting on behalf of someone else. If your subject is on flow for anyone, please let us know who.
6. All images will be stamped “Copyright 2008 TK TK,” with your name standing in for “TK TK,” before we post them on the website so no one ganks your shizz.

Call To Action: Support The Girls At GvR!

gvrflyer.jpgGro is on an important mission to change beliefs about girls and we need you! Some believe that girls contests do not put fans in the stands. Let’s change that belief. Here is our chance. GvR is coming up the first weekend of October. Since the first GvR etnies has shown support by including both women bowl and street contests. Now it is time to return the favor and show our support for the ladies. If we want to see women events continue and grow then lets show that we are appreciative. Show that we are here for the ladies!

Pushing for the Cause: B4BC Report

stl_040.jpgForty-five miles, 150 riders, and a lot of love made the 2008 Skate the Lake and Coast events a year to remember. We had kids and adults a-like pushing through the bike paths of Lake Tahoe and the Southern California coastline all in the name of breast cancer awareness.
