Maori Titles To Embrace The Waves Of Taranaki

Jessica Santorik is the defending champion in the Open Women’s Division and is odds-on favourite to win a fourth successive title this year.  Santorik is presently in Portugal competing for New Zealand at the 2008 ISA World Surfing Games.

Tough Day As Kiwis Head Into Business End of World Surfing Games

jessicasantorikwsg08c.jpgMatched up together in the Open Women’s Division, Daisy Thomas (Chch) and Jessica Santorik (Rag found themselves finishing their heat in third and fourth place respectively and they were eliminated from the event.  In a low scoring battle both surfers only needed 4.0 point rides to progress but could not find the tricky beach break waves to advance.  Thomas finished 25th overall while Santorik finished 31st.

Four Costa Ricans make quaterfinals at ISA Games

nataly-bernold.jpgFirst, Jason Torres, Luis Vindas and Jairo Pérez demonstrated outstanding skills, enough to classify for the quarterfinals of the Open category. Later in the day, in her own Heats, Nataly Bernold, the youngest surfer in this international competition with 15 years of age, repeated the same feat, and was set in the quarterfinals of the Women’s division as well. This is a new world record.

Carissa Moore rules the Billabong Freewave Challenge

freewavemooreheartbreaker.jpgRed hot Hawaiian surfer Carissa Moore has claimed top honors in the Heartbreaker division of the Billabong Freewave Challenge Mainland edition.  The 16-year-old phenomenon had both the first- and second-placing waves in the online event, which examined the best surfing performances captured on video on the US Mainland during the summer months ending September 22, 2008.
