Could Carissa Moore be signing the biggest contract in female surfing history?

11-time NSSA National champ, former Roxy Pro Gold Coast runner-up and sure-to-be future world champ Carissa Moore has just upped the ante – this time in the sponsorship arena. According to her longtime agent, Bryan Taylor, she’s agreed to terms on two major deals – one with Red Bull and the other with Nike 6.0. A third unconfirmed deal is still allegedly in the works with a well-known department store (think: Shaun White). That one should be finalized by Jan. 1. All said and done, the 16-year-old Punahou junior will likely be enjoying one of the most lucrative contacts in female pro surfing history (estimated to be in the range of three-quarters of a million dollars by one anonymous source). “CARISSA’S new agreements have for the first time ever shattered the glass ceiling of surfing sponsorship, opening up new and never heard of before possibilities for other surfers to eventually emulate,” says Taylor. “A true 22nd Century deal for the 21st Century, the unparalleled marketing power of CARISSA’S new family of sponsors will enable her to become one of the most brilliant points of light within the entire surfing universe.”

Australia’s BMX star Lauren Reynolds is heading to the USA to compete in the prestigious American Bicycle Association Grand Nationals. Reynolds, the world number one ranked junior women’s rider, will compete against the best world riders in Tulsa, Oklahoma later this month.

Jayme Erickson opens new skatepark in Missoula

On Saturday, the city of Missoula will add another skatepark to its resume, this time a 10,000-square-foot indoor facility.

The Fiftytwo Skatepark has a 2,000-square-foot bowl with a 5-foot-deep section and a 9-foot-deep section. Its 6,000-square-foot street course includes a quarter-pipe ramp, a vert ramp, loading docks, a hubba, a pier 7, an A-frame, a wally-box, Euro and a few rails.

The other 2,000 square feet of the facility include a lounge and skate shop, which will sell boards, trucks, wheels and bearings, and do tune-ups on skateboards.

“This town is very progressive and you have a great outdoor park,” said pro skater and co-founder Jayme Erickson. But “kids need something to do in the winter.”

Vonn wins women’s World Cup slalom

Lindsey Vonn picked up where she left off last season, winning the women’s World Cup slalom opener on Saturday.

The American, who won her first overall World Cup title last season, survived a big mistake late in the second run for a total time of 1:47.98 on Levi, Finland’s Black Course.

NY Times: 30 Seconds with Lindsey Vonn, Ski Champion

Lindsey Vonn, the defending World Cup overall and downhill champion, won the season-opening slalom on Saturday in Levi, Finland. Vonn, 23, is the most decorated female skier in United States history and the first American woman since 1983 to win the overall championship. Prumm suffers serious back injury

Double Women’s World Cup winner Katherine Prumm will undergo surgery in the coming days after a practice crash in her native New Zealand left the 20 year old with several broken vertebrae.
