Elissa Steamer Reclaims Her Skateboard Street Gold Medalist Status

070419_springgirlstorres_v.jpgSteamer bumped X Games 13 gold medalist Del Santo into second place to win her fourth Gold Medal in Women’s Skateboard Street. Until last year, Steamer had held the gold medal title for three years running.

“I’ve been living and breathing skating everyday the last couple years, not just skating when I felt like it.” Steamer said. “Obviously it paid off.”

Obviously it did. Steamer’s grueling training showed as she attacked the obstacles throughout the three heat final with relentless consistency. During the second heat she stuck a lofty, kick flip over the China gap with less than three seconds on the clock, bringing the crowd atop the LA Live Event Deck to an uproar.

In the third and last heat of the final it was second place finisher Del Santo and bronze medalist Amy Caron’s time to shine as they both landed tough kick flips over the double set of stairs and nose slides down the handrail.

“When I first saw skate videos there was only one girl in them and it was Elissa,” Caron (who’s won her second consecutive bronze medal in street) said. “To be on the podium with her and competing on her level is awesome.”

The girls of X Games 14 are just getting warmed up. Check back tomorrow for the action at the Skateboard Women’s Vert Final and the Moto X Racing Women’s Final beginning at 11 a.m. PT.
