Lee Ann Curren (FRA), 19, reigning ASP European Champion, was eliminated in Round 2 of the Billabong Surf-Eco Festival in Brazil, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 5-Star event. Curren, who led the small European squad to Praia do Forte, was the only one of four girls in contention to reach Round 2 but was defeated by current ASP Women’s World Tour member Silvana Lima (BRA) and young rising surfer Paige Hareb (NZL).
