“The minute you take that first wave, the whole world stops and you’re hooked. I’m a big skier and I never thought anything would replace the thrill of skiing. But I’m hanging up my ski boots,” said one 42 year old student from the United Kingdom.

ChicaBrava was started in 2007 by Ashley Blaylock, the current reigning National Champion in Women’s surfing in Nicaragua. The goal of ChicaBrava is to inspire young girls and women to push themselves to challenge themselves and gain self-confidence throughout the process.

“In my own experience, I realized early on the importance of living life to the fullest and doing what makes you happy. Surfing helped me realize this and I want to share that wisdom with women from all over the world,” said Blaylock.

*ChicaBrava does schedule special dates/camps outside its existing schedule for special events, groups, etc. Men are also welcome to attend. Group discounts are also available. Email info@chicabrava.com for more information.

About ChicaBrava

ChicaBrava is an elite surf camp primarily for girls and women who value and appreciate the thrill of adventure, overcoming challenges and learning new skills. The camp is located in the quaint fishing village of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, only 30 minutes north of Costa Rica. The camp offers a variety of surf/travel packages which daily surfing classes for all skill levels, luxury accommodations, authentic local cuisine prepared daily for students, yoga classes, soothing massage and a variety of chaperoned excursions.

Our name comes from the founder’s first days surfing the world-class waves of Nicaragua. When Ashley Blaylock arrived in Nicaragua in 2003, the local surfers - all men - had never surfed with any women. Surprised that a “chica” could actually surf and take risks, they’d yell out, “ay.chica brava!” or “brave girl” whenever they’d see her in the water.
