The girl who inspired “Gidget” is a grandmother who loves her role as a living, breathing, wave-riding surf icon. And when Zuckerman stood up on the wave about a decade ago, down in San Diego, at a cancer fundraiser with Doyle, it was like reuniting with a first love. “It felt so good to be in the water,” she said. “That was the beginning of the resurrection.”
