Lay day called at the 2008 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships
A lay day was called at the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships by Contest Director Marcos Bukao as the windy 1-2 ft waves are not what contestants are used to at Seignosse Le Penon on the French coastline. The lay day allows the world’s best youngsters a chance to recover and recharge in the hope that tomorrow morning will bring better conditions. After two days of non-stop high performance surfing in epic conditions and hot sunshine, everyone can now at last, take a breath.
The world famous French beach breaks have provided fantastic conditions for the opening 2 days of the event allowing for the call of a lay day. Contest director Marcos Bukao said, “This has been the easiest decision I have had to make. We ran the maximum amounts of heats yesterday; we have completed 30% of the contest in just two days.”
The lay day allowed the Aussie team to get out and about with Owen Wright stating “It was great to get out of the competition routine and see some sights around France. A refreshing day off but back to business tomorrow. We are ready to step it up a level and take it to the internationals…stay tuned!”
Tomorrow will feature the girls back in action with Laura Enever, Kirstie Jones and Tyler Wright in round two action and Tiana McNeven into the round two repercharge round. The boys will have another day off to recharge their batteries for the competition ahead.
The 2008 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships are being held in Seignosse Le Penon, France with the finals set down for Sunday 1st June.
