Local girl helps U.S. surf team

New Smyrna Beach’s Amy Nicholl traveled to Hossegor, France, as one of 12 surfers on the USA Surf Team for the World Junior Surfing Championships held May 24-June 1. Teams from 28 countries competed in seven days of double-elimination heats. Nicholl finished 19th, not bad considering there were 260 surfers in what International Surfing Association calls “the most prestigious tournament on the planet for surfers under the age of 18.”
