THE ROXY JAM HONOLULU RETURNS TO THE ISLANDS FOR A SECOND YEAR
The Roxy Jam Honolulu presented by Schick Quattro for Women starts August 20, 2008 and finishes Sunday August 23, 2008 at Queens Beach, in Honolulu. This three-star Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) contest, now in its second year, is the only ASP sanctioned longboarding event scheduled for Hawaii in 2008 and will bring together more than 80 world class female longboarders from around the globe.
The Roxy Jam Honolulu is part of the 2008 Duke’s OceanFest, a celebration of surfing and water sports held in honor of surfer Duke Kahanamoku. The Roxy Jam Honolulu is one of the most prized crowns of the week-long festivities with $5,000 up for grabs and the “Queen of Waikiki”title on the line.
Schick Quattro for Women has returned for a second year in a row to support the event and women’s surfing. Schick Quattro for Women is helping to advance women’s longboarding by adding an additional $3,000 for the 2008 Roxy Jam Honolulu Schick Quattro for Women Style Award; a winner-takes-all special award given to the surfer who exemplifies the most impressive and flawless style throughout the contest.
This year, the field has expanded from 64 to 80 competitors including last year’s Roxy Jam Honolulu inaugural champion Julie Whitegon, Roxy team-rider and 2006/2007 Women’s World Longboarding Champion Jen Smith and Roxy team-riders Kassia Meador, Julie Cox, Kelia Moniz (HAW), Kula Barbieto (HAW) and Crystal Dzigas (HAW).
The Roxy team will be signing autographs from 4:00-5:00pm on the beach in front of the Outrigger Reef Hotel on August 19th.
Special thanks to our sponsors; Schick Quattro for Women and Outrigger Reef Hotel.
